Frequently Asked Questions

General

Which allergens are used in the bakery and shops?

We use all allergens in our bakery and shops and cannot guarantee any product is completely allergen-free.

If you have a query about a specific product, please ask a staff member in one of our shops or on one of our snack vans who will be able to provide you with allergen information. Alternatively, please call our Head Office (Mon to Fri, 9am to 5pm) on 01279 722 375 who will be able to help.

What happens to the food waste from the shops and bakery?

We recognise the importance of food waste recycling. Therefore, all food waste is returned to our bakery and collected by Biogen where it is converted into renewable energy.

What about cardboard?

We collect, bale and palletise all of our waste cardboard. This is then collected by 3B Recycling and is 100% recycled. We are continuously monitoring our recycling efforts to minimise the quantity of waste going to landfill.

What does Dorringtons Ltd do for charity?

Annually, Dorringtons Ltd makes a charitable donation to the University of Cambridge – School of Clinical Medicine (Clinical Neurosciences).

In addition to this we have collection boxes for Alzheimer's Society in all of our shops which are generously filled by our customers with a running total standing at over £34,000. Every year we donate hundreds of Novelty Biscuits and Mince Tarts to various charitable events run by Alzheimer’s Society to thank their volunteers and supporters.

This year Dorringtons took part in National Doughnut Week and raised £1975.20 for The Children’s Trust by donating 15p from the sale of every doughnut for the week.

Our bakery collects every bottle top from the milk we use, these are then recycled with a donation being made to The Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice under a fantastic green initiative which promotes recycling and charitable donations.

Dorringtons makes charitable donations to various charities throughout the local area weekly in response to charity requests we receive from our customers and local businesses. These donations could be anything from a box of 12 cupcakes for a raffle prize to bread rolls for a fundraising barbecue. If you would like to send us a charity request please use the form on our website.

What is the Dorringtons Promise?

If you are ever dissatisfied by any of our products for any reason please return it to the branch or van you purchased it from where they will offer you a no quibble full refund or exchange. Please note, we are unable to offer the Dorringtons Promise without full or partial return of the product.

Do you make Gluten Free products?

Due to flour being used throughout the bakery we do not make any Gluten Free products.

What time will my order be delivered?

All deliveries are made Monday to Saturday between 9am and midday. Please give us a call on 01279 722 375 if you need a smaller time window as we may be able to accommodate this. We are unable to guarantee any delivery time due to events beyond our control.

How do I need to store my order?

Sandwich, Bridge Roll and Savoury Platters should be refrigerated from the point of collection/delivery.

Fresh Cream Cakes and Platters should be refrigerated from the point of collection/delivery.

Cupcake and Cake platters should be kept cool or at room temperature away from direct sunlight - Heat will cause icing to melt and slide and it dries out the sponge.

Celebration Cakes and Cutting Cakes should be kept cool or at room temperature away from direct sunlight - Heat will cause icing to melt and slide and it dries out the sponge. If it is a particularly hot day a fan directed towards the cake will help.

What if the products are damaged when I receive them?

Please make sure you check your product when you pick it up from the shop or it is delivered. If you feel the products you receive are below the standard you expect, please let our staff know immediately.

My product does not look the same as on the website

We have made every effort to display the colours, specifications, dimensions and descriptions of items on the Website as accurately as possible. The colours you see will depend on the resolution of your monitor. We cannot guarantee that your monitor’s display of any colour will always reflect accurately the colour of the item delivered. We may from time to time vary the dimensions, specifications, descriptions and quantities of items displayed on our website without prior notice.

Will my Celebration Cake be exactly like the image references I have sent?

Each celebration cake is hand crafted and therefore there may be slight variations in colours and detail. Any modelling will always be as close to descriptions and images supplied, however, we cannot guarantee exact replicas.  The cake may include non edible decorations and dowels which must be removed when the cake is cut and served.

How do I transport my cake?

Do not place a cake directly onto vehicle’ s seats, the best place for a cake is in the footwell with the seat pushed back. The footwell is flat whereas car seats are angled.  Ensure your vehicle is cool. Drive with caution and never leave a cake unattended in a stationary vehicle as a cake can melt from the heat. Please note, we are unable to take any responsibility for damaged products / cakes once they have been checked and left our shop premises / been delivered.

I have ordered a large, tiered cake or a cake with delicate additions, how will it be delivered to avoid damage?

Due to possible damage in delivery and transit tiered cakes may come separately for the customer to position themselves.  Please note that if your cake comes with some delicate sugar craft pieces e.g. flowers or detailed figures, these may be wrapped separately and will require you to place them on the cake yourself. Markers will be made on the cake for positioning by our cake designers and will not require any great expertise.
